Software Diagnostics Developer Edition Released

Innovate 2010: Experts in automated dynamic code analysis in complex software systems present combined recorder, debugger and profiler

Orlando (Florida), 7 June 2010. At the IBM Rational Conference Innovate 2010 in Orlando, Software Diagnostics announces the release of Software Diagnostics Developer Edition. The Potsdam (Germany) specialists’ analysis tool for visualizing complex software systems combines a recorder, debugger and profiler. Software developers profit by accelerating the debugging and enhancing of their software projects. Developer Edition analyzes static structures and dynamic processes within the software, recording them and presenting graphically appealing models. The tool is available as of immediately as an add-on for Visual Studio; support for additional development environments is currently in preparation.

Software Diagnostics relies on a special recorder with its own internally developed binary code instrumentation to record all internal system activities during runtime, and for analyzing them by means of data mining. The debugger provides software developers with intuitive visualizations of the recorded sequences, enabling them to scroll forwards and backwards in time and to quickly identify critical execution points. The profiler allows to identify code structures and immediately gives information such as the amount of time the application spends in the various functions. “Until now, developers have had to spend an enormous amount of time finding out what’s actually happening at runtime – often 40 percent of their work time,” explains Software Diagnostics’ Managing Director Marc Hildebrandt. “Because we also include dynamic components into the analysis and presentation, developers really get an inside view of their software for the first time. By doing so, they not only save lots of time – they also increase code quality.”

With its product, Software Diagnostics intends to contribute to quality assurance, increasing system performance and schedule adherence in IT projects. The tool is especially suitable for development on complex and lesser known software systems, and for software projects that incorporate more than 50,000 lines of code, and in which more than three developers are involved.

Software Diagnostics Developer Edition is available as of immediately in various license models starting at EUR 280 per year and developer. Initially, development with Visual Studio in the programmer languages C and C++ is supported; a version for Java will follow later this year. Interested developers will find comprehensive documentation and a free 10-day trial full version of the software in the online shop on the new website at www.softwarediagnostics.com.
